Did you know that you are being tested while read? No? Ok, keep reading.
When you read an article, watch a video or smile look crazy pets, you are taking part in a giant experiment. May be you do not realize but hundreds of robots are testing your searches. The main goal is to discover the truth about costumers behaviour and there a lot of companies willing to pay big sums to know the results.
One of this experiment was released by Facebook in June. The study involved showing some people more negative posts than they would otherwise have seen, and then measuring how this affected their behaviour. They in fact tended to post more negative content themselves revealing a kind of emotional contagion.
Companies have spent several years to study customers behaviour, but we are in a new level of sophistication, largely because is so easy to learn about people preferences on the Web.
In an official statement, Ron Kohavi, general manager of analysis and experimentation at Microsoft, said that each time one person browses on Web, took part unintentionally, in about 300 experiments and these insights can be worth millions of dollars in advertising revenue.
What?? Incredible?? Yes. So it does not care if you try to hide your preferences, Facebook knows everything about you. Well, Facebook and may be all Social Media tools. As recent as this month, Facebook said -to assuage concerns among its users- that it would introduce a new process of reviewing potentially sensitive research. Enogh? Either for me.
